Course Description

This course is designed to have students understand how the American economy operates.  It also prepares them to make decisions as consumers, wage earners, and citizens within our economy

 

Course Content

Throughout the course of the semester the students will learn about many topics within our n

            The Economic process – decision concerning our resources

            The Free enterprise system – types of businesses and their motivations

            Business Organizations of today – management, finance, production, marketing

            Government’s role in business – spending, law and taxation

            Consumer in our Economy – budgeting, trends, rights and responsibilities

            Money and Banking – types of accounts, services

            Use of Credit – types, management and responsibility

            Saving and Investing – why, where, and types

            Insurance – types and risks (life, health, auto)   

            Career Planning – self assessment, today’s job market, successful employee traits

 

Student Requirements

For successful completion of the course the students will need to do the following;

            Daily attendance with a STRONG effort and desire to understand the material

            Class participation

            Reading in and out of class

            Completion of daily assignments and projects

            Preparation prior to class  - bring materials, text, supplies

            Keep organized notebook of chapters and notes/assignments etc. 

 

 

Grading Procedures

            Your grade will be YOUR grade.  You OWN it based on your performance in class.  Your points earned will be comprised from your daily participation points, assignments, projects, quizzes and tests.  Every day will be graded  - so “bring your best” each and every day.

                        C+       83, 82              C         81,80               C-        79,78

                        D+       77,76               D         75 - 73             D-        72 – 70        F  69% & below
